Jet Harris Memorial Fund reaches £25,000!!

We’re thrilled to be able to give you the news that we have sent another cheque for £500 to Cancer Research UK. This means that - thanks to your fantastic help and support - we have now donated a total of £25,000 in memory of Jet.

We’re delighted to share with you this certificate, which we have received from Cancer Research UK to mark the Jet Harris Memorial Fund reaching this milestone amount.

Our contact at CRUK, Chelsea, sent the following message, "It is certainly an incredible amount of money, and we are so grateful for the support. It’s so lovely that so many people have wanted to show their love and respect for Jet. And as you say it’s not just the donations but also the awareness that you are bringing to our work, which is just as important so thank you ever so much."

We’re certain that Jet would have been astounded and humbled to think that so many people would come together to raise this money in his name. A huge thank you to all of the clubs, musicians and individuals who have donated money, donated items for raffles, organised events and helped in so many ways. Also, a very special thank you to Bruce Welch who has continued to support the Fund over the years.

Sadly, as many of you know, we lost Rob Bradford at the end of last year. Rob was not only a good friend, but he also was our treasurer. He had supported and helped Jet’s Memorial Fund from its beginning. Rob knew that we were going to reach the £25,000 and we sincerely wish that he was still here to make this announcement himself. We miss him and we’d like to pay tribute to Rob for all of his hard work, encouragement and support.

As always, all of the money raised will go specifically towards research that impacts cancer of unknown primary.

Thank you again. Take care and our very best wishes

Janet, Audrey, Barry, David and Justin

Donations to Cancer Research UK now total £24,500!

Thank you! We are delighted to report that we have sent a cheque for a further £500 to Cancer Research UK. This brings the total donated so far in memory of Jet to £24,500. We really are incredibly grateful to all those who have continued to support Jet’s Memorial Fund, especially during these difficult times. We know that it has not been easy for anyone over the last 2 years. Thank you all so much! You are the best!

As always, everything donated in memory of Jet is restricted for research that will help people diagnosed with cancer of unknown primary. The specific research projects for CUP that we were supporting have ended, but our latest donation has been restricted for research into cancer biology, which will be beneficial for all kinds of cancers - especially hard to treat cancers including cancer of unknown primary.

We are now within £500 of achieving our target of donating £25,000 in memory of Jet, so we hope that you will continue to support the Fund! It would be fantastic if we could reach this goal.

Thank you again once again.

With best wishes, Janet, Audrey, Barry, David, Justin and Rob

Our thanks to Tony Hoffman for his donation of £95 from sales of his CD single!

A big thank you to Tony Hoffman for his kind donation of £95 from the sales of his CD single ‘Haunted House’. At the end of 2020, Tony recorded two of his compositions ‘Haunted House’ and ‘Six String Thunder Thrill’ as a tribute to Jet and to help the Memorial Fund. We are very grateful to Tony and to all who supported this project by purchasing a CD - especially as this was during such difficult times for everyone. We also very much enjoyed hearing these two great "Hoffman originals"! Thanks again Tony!

Donations reach £24000!!

Everything we donate is restricted for research that will help to benefit those diagnosed with cancer of unknown primary and is given in memory of Jet.

As always, we are very grateful to everyone who has supported the Fund in any way and we hope that you will continue to help in the future. It would be fantastic if we could reach a figure of £25,000 donated in memory of Jet!

Happy New Year from all the team at the Jet Harris Memorial Fund! We are delighted to be able to start the new year with the good news that we have just sent a further cheque for £3000 to Cancer Research UK. This brings the total donated so far to £23,125. Everything we donate is 'restricted', which means that the money can only be used for research into cancer of unknown primary and is given in memory of Jet.

We would like to take this opportunity also to pay tribute to Michael Knott, who sadly passed away last year. Michael was a great friend of Jet’s from his childhood, when they went to school together. He was also an ardent supporter of the Jet Harris Memorial Fund and he helped at its inception by sponsoring the website. This photo of Mike with Jet was taken by Janet (Hemingway) in Jet’s garden at his cottage on the Isle of Wight. He is greatly missed.

We are very grateful to everyone who has supported the Fund in any way and we very much hope that you will continue to help in the future. It would be wonderful if we could reach a figure of £25,000 donated in memory of Jet!!

Thank you again and we hope that you will have a very happy 2018!
With best wishes, Janet, Audrey, Barry, David, Justin and Rob.

Robert Withrington

We were very sad to hear towards the end of last year that one of our loyal supporters, Bob Withrington, had passed away. An amazing £2113.00 was donated - a wonderful tribute to Bob! We would like to say a very sincere thank you to Charlotte and to all those who contributed to this fantastic amount. Bob was an inspiration to many people within the Shadows community and music world. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

Jet Harris Memorial Fund in the news...

An article about Jet and the Memorial Fund was published in the Southern Daily Echo on 17 March 2014 together with Barry Gillam’s historic photograph of Jet at Ferneham Hall, Fareham in February 2011. The photo shows Jet on stage with fellow bass players Brian (Licorice) Locking and Alan Jones. This was the first time that all three former Shadows bass players had performed together on stage. Sadly this was to be Jet’s last performance. Click here to read the full article:
